Premier League season comparison makes for horrible reading

We have endured a difficult season, with injuries destroying our campaign. When compared to our fantastic last season it makes things look that much worse, but we can learn from our mistakes and come back stronger in 2015/16.

We aren’t the only team to have slumped somewhat this year, and this list shows all the Premier League teams now in comparison to this point last season:

17) Liverpool – 18 points worse (36 games)

It’s no secret that this season has been a disappointing one when compared to last year, but the fact that we are bottom of this table just backs the point up.

Injuries and departures have certainly played their part – we all suspected that the loss of Luis Suarez would hit us hard – but we need to drastically improve if we are to challenge again next season.

The fact that we look set to finish fifth despite being 18 points worse off says a lot about just how superb we were last season, so hopefully we can reach that level – and beyond – again next campaign.

16) Everton – 15 points worse (36 games)

We may have fallen on hard times, but that’s nothing compared to the Toffees. They have endured a shocking season, and have fallen from grace under Roberto Martinez.

15) Newcastle – 10 points worse (36 games)

Oh how they must be regretting letting Alan Pardew get away now. John Carver looks in danger of getting the Magpies relegated, after a dismal run of form.

14) Tottenham – Eight points worse (36 games)

A poor season for Spurs, despite having one of the in form strikers in the league scoring freely. We could have used a striker like Harry Kane at times, or at least a striker in the form he has been showing.

13) Manchester City – Seven points worse (36 games)

The former champions have endured a mixed season, and despite sitting in second place they have been somewhat erratic. We dominated them in our recent clash, which just goes to show we are capable of challenging for the title.

12) Hull City – Three points worse (36 games)

The Tigers are in danger of relegation, and have been in extremely poor form in 2015. They looked solid at the start of the campaign, but have struggled with injuries.

11) Crystal Palace – One point worse (36 games)

Alan Pardew has done wonders at Selhurst Park, and they have been one of the in form teams since he took over.

10) Aston Villa – Equal on points (36 games)

Tim Sherwood has been the shot in the arm the Villains needed to avoid relegation, and they look like a new team under the former Tottenham boss.

9) Arsenal – Equal on points (35 games)

The Gunners have been the team to beat in 2015, but they struggled at the start of the season. They always seem to finish strongly, and look to have done so again this campaign.

8) Sunderland – Four points better (35 games)

Dick Advocaat will be hoping to save Sunderland in their final three games, but it’s tight down at the bottom of the table.

6=) Southampton – Five points better (36 games)

The Saints have been excellent under Ronald Koeman, and were top four contenders for a long time. They are still in with a shout for Europa League, but have slipped away in the second half of the season.

6=) West Bromwich Albion – Five points better (36 games)

Survival was the target for the Baggies, and that’s exactly what Tony Pulis has given them.

4=) Stoke – Six points better (36 games)

A solid season for Mark Hughes’ side, who look comfortable as a middle table team.

4=) Chelsea – Six points better (36 games)

The new champions, Jose Mourinho has unfortunately improved Chelsea with a number of good signings. We were the better team during our clash at Stamford Bridge however, and we really deserved more than a draw.

3) Manchester United – Eight points better (36 games)

Man United have been poor this season, but they have somehow found themselves ahead of us and in the last Champions League spot. They don’t deserve to be in the top four, but it looks impossible for us to prise it away from them now.

2) West Ham – 10 points better (36 games)

The Hammers have been on a shocking run, but their fantastic start to the season has kept them alive.

1) Swansea – 17 points better (36 games)

Swansea are still potentially candidates for the Europa League, and have been fantastic under Garry Monk. They beat Arsenal in their last game, and have looked solid throughout the season.
