Things could not have gone more differently for Luis Suarez and Mario Balotelli over the last six months. However, while the latter has failed to fill his predecessor’s shoes at Anfield, the Uruguayan remains convinced that his replacement can still be a success.

Many Liverpool fans were already fearing the worst when Suarez completed his £75m move to Barcelona. Balotelli was the man tasked with helping replicate one of the best players on the planet and unfortunately he has struggled to deliver.

Suarez has scored 24 goals in 41 games for his new employers, leading them to the top of La Liga and into the Champions League final. Balotelli has scored four times, with only one of those coming in the Premier League, and now looks unlikely to remain on Merseyside beyond the end of the season (via The Guardian).

Nonetheless, Suarez remains convinced that the Italian is a top player. In quotes taken by the Daily Mirror earlier this week, he said: “I think Mario has played for big clubs, proving himself to be a formidable player.

“It is not easy to place himself at Manchester City and return to England. It has not been easy for him but he is still a great player.”
