Italian minnows refuse to rule out Mario Balotelli move

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has admitted that his side are interested in signing Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli this summer, despite the Italian scoring just four goals in all competitions this season.

Balotelli is widely expected to leave the Reds before the start of next season, with Brendan Rodgers having seemingly lost faith in his £16m summer signing, who has struggled to settle since his move from AC Milan (via The Telegraph).

For last weekend’s game with Chelsea, Balotelli failed to even make the substitutes bench, with Rodgers preferring to hand teenager Jerome Sinclair his Premier League debut instead.

As a result, Preziosi has become the latest to be asked about his potential interest in Balotelli.

His Genoa side currently sit seventh in Serie A and have an outside chance of securing a Europa League spot. Indeed, the Rossoblu could even finish as high as fifth, with Fiorentina and local rivals Sampdoria just a couple of points ahead of them.

In quotes taken by the Liverpool Echo, Preziosi said of the rumours: “Balotelli? Never say never, even if our offer would be less than what he is usually accustomed to.”

It’s not worked out for the Italian, sadly – and we think his best chance of eventually reaching the levels once predicted for him is by moving to a small club where he has less responsibility.
