According to the Daily Express, the 34-year-old had been attracting the attention of some MLS sides, however, he could now decide to take up a 12 month option on his contract.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City man has been used sparingly this year, making just 11 appearances in the Premier League. However, he has proved when called upon, that he can still do a job in the twilight of his career.

He was one of several fringe players faced with the daunting task of going to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid in this season’s Champions League. When the line up was announced – with some key players left on the bench – the talk became about how many we would lose by, rather than whether we could force some kind of result. The Ivory Coast international was one of the players that stood out most on the night, putting in a battling display that should live long in the memory.

With Dejan Lovren finding some form and consistency however, and Mamadou Sakho set to return from injury in the near future, it is likely that Toure will find himself down the bottom of the pecking order behind the pair, and Martin Skrtel.
