The Gunners are one of the sides linked with the England international, and rather than play down any chance of trying to sign him, Wenger has suggested that transfer dealings is not his main focus right now, the Daily Star report.

“I do not bid for anybody at the moment. In the summer I will bid for people yes but at the moment we are not in transfer mode at all,” he said.

“I don’t like to lie,” he added cryptically. “If I say I will and I don’t do it, you will say I lied.”

BBC Sport reported that the 20-year-old plans to try and force a move away from Anfield in the summer, by refusing to sign a new contract. However, with two years left on his current deal, there is no immediate need for us to sell, which means the ball is mainly in our court. While it is clear that his future is probably no longer on Merseyside, the option does remain to let him stew in the reserves until a suitable offer comes our way. Of course, the less he plays, the less other clubs will be willing to spend on him.

Wenger’s quotes do not really give an awful lot away, but if he flatly didn’t want Sterling, he’d have said so. We’d rather the attacker was offloaded abroad, as it’d be horrible to see Sterling maximise his talent at an English rival – regardless of the transfer fee we could receive for his services.
