Raheem Sterling booed by Liverpool fans at POTY awards

Raheem Sterling won this season’s Young Player of the Year award at this evening’s Liverpool end of season awards ceremony, but he won’t look back on the evening with any fond feeling…

The 20-year-old, who does not want to sign a new contract and will tell Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre this Friday that he wants to leave Anfield (via BBC Sport), was booed by supporters as he collected the gong as a result, reports the Echo.

“I’d just like to say thank you to all my team-mates,” Sterling said when collecting the award, in an obvious dig at the fans who’ve given him an especially hard time ever since he turned down an £100k-per-week contract extension (via BBC Sport) back in April.

Tonight was surely just another nail in the coffin in Sterling’s Liverpool career.

The player cut a dejected figure as he arrived for the evening with his girlfriend, and he can’t have enjoyed one minute of the event – which saw his team-mate Coutinho pick up the overall Player of the Year award.

Sterling’s talent is exceptional, but his attitude is sadly not.

For the right money, it’d be best for the player and the club if they parted ways this summer.
