The Reds are set to finish fifth in the Premier League, although could still come as low as seventh if results go against us on the final day of the season. We enjoyed impressive runs in both the FA Cup and the League Cup, reaching two semi-finals, although we were poor on our long-awaited return to Europe, winning just two of eight matches.
According to the Daily Mirror, manager Brendan Rodgers is not under any ‘immediate threat’, although he will be quizzed during a series of meetings about the failure to deliver the target of a top-four finish.
Rodgers has already admitted that his team have underperformed during the current campaign and hopefully these meetings will include making plans to help us improve. It is thought that the Northern Irishman would dearly love to add some experienced players during the upcoming transfer window, going against our current transfer policy.
The owners are happy to discuss this but are unwilling to overspend, as they fear a repeat of the scenario from several years ago, where we almost went bankrupt. The Mirror expects the current structure, which sees a transfer committee – where the manager is central to decisions – identifying future signings, to be changed.
Among the other items to be discussed will be whether or not to introduce a director of football, something which Rodgers has previously been against.
