Five things we’d love to see against Stoke City, with Jerome Sinclair goal & Emre Can analysis

Liverpool are travelling to Stoke City on Sunday as the Premier League concludes, and while we’re only really playing for fifth place, there’s a number of questions which still makes the match fairly intriguing.

Here’s how we’d love to see the season end…

A Simon Mignolet clean-sheet to earn him the Golden Glove…

Currently our Belgian stopper is on 13 clean-sheets for the season, level on that mark with Southampton’s Fraser Forster, Manchester City’s Joe Hart and Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski. Forster is crocked so can’t extend his tally, while Southampton are a decent bet to score against City to stump Hart’s chances. Swansea are away at Palace, so providing they concede and we keep Stoke out at the Britannia, Mignolet will win the Golden Glove on his own! It’ll be fair reward for a wonderful mid-season recovery.

Jerome Sinclair to cap a first start with a goal…

We’d love to see the teenage striker given a start against Stoke. He’s so far only been given fleeting chances, and to be fair, has been totally anonymous from the bench against Chelsea and Crystal Palace. It’ll be unfair to judge him unless he gets a full run-out of course, and it’d be superb to see him notch a goal and head into pre-season chomping at the bit to continue impressing.

Emre Can to prove he’s good enough in central midfield…

This drum has been beaten plenty of times by Liverpool fans, who can’t understand why a player with such ability is being utilised in defence rather than midfield. But in truth – he’s never played exceptionally in the centre of the park. His skill-sets seemingly suit a central box-to-box role of course, and it’d be great to see the German prodigy stamp his authority on the position to leave us excited before 2015/16.

Steven Gerrard to bow out gracefully, and for the Stoke fans to recognise as much…

Gerrard deserves to leave Liverpool on a winning note, and his team should do their utmost to secure this for the legendary skipper. He’s already had his emotional Anfield swan song, but away from home the occasion’s going to be a little different… It’d be great to see the Stoke fans give him an appropriate sendoff, as they’ll outnumber our noisy supporters. Let’s hope they show the class Gerrard has earned.

Liverpool fans to show Raheem Sterling why we’re the greatest club in the world…

This one’s a little controversial, as following the week’s antics from player and agent (he’s ‘not’ signing, says Aidy Ward via the Evening Standard…) – fans would be forgiven for giving the 20-year-old a hard time. But we’re Liverpool, and we should cheer every player who pulls on a shirt with the Liverbird on its crest. If we can show him how great we are, it’ll help drive a wedge between the player and his agent – and Sterling could eventually do the right thing and get rid of Ward, sign with us, and we can all forget this sorry mess.
