According to the Daily Mail, Toure has signed a new one-year deal which will see him take on further responsibilities off the pitch. As one of the most senior members of our squad, the 34-year-old will be expected to assist his young teammates with the experience he’s garnered over the course of his career.

The former Ivory Coast international described the deal as a simple decision and promised to help the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson in any way he could.

Toure joined Liverpool from Manchester City on a free transfer in 2013 and has made 45 appearances over the last two years.

The Mail state that Wisdom has extended his contract until 2019. He will be looking to establish himself under Brendan Rodgers having spent the last two seasons on loan – first at Derby County and more recently at West Bromwich Albion.

He has made 22 appearances for Liverpool thus far, having first made the step-up from our academy side in 2012.

You can read what they both had to say below:

Kolo Toure (via official website):

“It’s fantastic news and I couldn’t ask for more. For me, to be able to play for one of the best clubs in the world for longer means a lot to me, so I feel really happy to extend my career at this fantastic club.

“Everything is great for me with the other players, the manager, the club and the fans and I love it here.

“I am one of the most experienced players in the squad and I have to play that role because we have so many young players. For me, it’s important that I try to help those young players when they need it. I am happy to do that, I like to take on that responsibility, and I enjoy that role.

“The manager has known me for a long time and we’ve been speaking very well together. He knows what I can do on and off the pitch.

“I have won some things in my career, but now I want to help the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and the other young players win something because they are great, great players.

“If I can help them in any way with my experience to achieve things next season, that would be massive for me.”

Andre Wisdom (via official website):

“Committing my long-term future to Liverpool was an easy decision to make. The club are in my heart and I can’t wait to get going again here. I’m already looking forward to pre-season training and linking back up with all the lads.

“I definitely picked up some good experience at West Brom and I am grateful to them for the opportunity they gave me and the faith they showed in me.

“But now I’m looking forward to challenging for a place back here at Liverpool. This is one of the world’s biggest football clubs and it’s an honour to be a part of it.

“It’s fantastic news for me and my family for me to have signed a new contract here and now I want to work hard and try to compete for places again.”
