Liverpool remain determined to sell Mario Balotelli, despite agent claims

The Reds are on a collision course with Mario Balotelli’s agent Mino Raiola this summer, as we attempt to hurry through a sale of the struggling Italian striker, who managed just four goals in all competitions this season.

Raiola claimed yesterday, in quotes that came via ITV, that his client would be staying at Anfield for at least another season. He said: “We have talks with Liverpool and he will stay. I spoke many times with the club and they were happy with his input as a professional.”

However, contrasting reports in The Guardian suggest that our bosses have no intention of allowing that to happen. Andy Hunter writes that we will be prepared to take a ‘substantial financial hit’ on the £16m man, who has started only 14 games since his move from AC Milan.

Sampdoria have expressed an interest in taking Balotelli back to Italy and with Brendan Rodgers determined to undergo a huge overhaul of his striking talent this summer, The Guardian believes that’s a move which is more than possible.

Many Liverpool fans have expressed a desire to see Balotelli given more of a chance. Indeed, only 54% of supporters admitted that they wanted to see him sold this summer, when taking part in a poll conducted by the Liverpool Echo.

However, it seems clear that Rodgers does not rate the player, who he left out of his final four match-day squads. As The Guardian explains, our manager criticised Balotelli’s work-rate on a number of occasions, and it seems unlikely that the 24-year-old will get another chance with Rodgers in charge.
