Reports in The Telegraph claim that Ings favours a move to Anfield, but with Spurs seemingly willing to pay around £12m for the striker’s services, Burnley could attempt to point their forward in the direction of North London.

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals for the Clarets this season but failed to prevent their relegation to the Championship. He’s out of contract next month and Sean Dyche’s side know they have no chance of keeping their star man.

As The Telegraph explains, Ings’ age means that Burnley are entitled to a compensation fee this summer, anticipated to be in the region of £5m. However, Tottenham’s bizarre valuation could see that price pushed higher, with the Clarets now waiting to see how we’ll respond.

It will be interesting to see whether Brendan Rodgers – a long term admirer of Ings – is willing to push forward with a deal, even if he has to pay a seven-figure fee. It’s hard to argue with a £5m price-tag for a player who is only likely to play a bit-part role for us next season, but paying twice that might start to cause some second thoughts.
