If this report from the Daily Star is anything to go by, it looks like James Milner is about to become our highest paid player, having just completed his free transfer from Manchester City…

The 29-year-old’s contract at the Etihad was up, meaning we could secure him on a Bosman free, but it’s by no means going to be a cheap deal – with the England man signing for £150k-per-week, the Star reckons…

City offered Milner £165k-per-week to stay on, but according to the Star, guaranteed first-team football convinced him to make the switch to Anfield, and although the wage he’s been offered is pretty gargantuan, we’re glad he’s arrived, and hope it signals the rest of an exciting summer transfer window.

What’s more – they’re convinced that he’ll be given the famous no.7 shirt, which has been vacant since the brilliant Luis Suarez moved to Barcelona last summer…

The no.7 has previously been worn by Kenny Dalglish, who along with Steven Gerrard, is renowned as our greatest ever player.

Because it’s in the Star, we’re pretty sure the squad number claim is speculation rather than fact – but can certainly see Milner being given the iconic seven regardless.

The no.8 and no.11 are also vacant – so we similarly wouldn’t be surprised if he got one of those two instead.
