Raheem Sterling doesn’t want to join Manchester United; Liverpool won’t sell

Reports in The Guardian this morning are suggesting that Raheem Sterling will consider a potential transfer move to Manchester United this summer, but is ultimately unlikely to push for a move to Old Trafford due to the fierce rivalry between the clubs.

His concerns will no doubt raise more than a few amused eyebrows around the country, especially when we consider how the youngster and his agent, Aidy Ward, have conducted themselves over the last couple of months.

According to the Evening Standard, Ward has already ruled out any possibility of Sterling staying at Liverpool – despite him having two years left to run on his contract – claiming he wouldn’t extend his deal for £900,000-per-week.

Nonetheless, our owners will doubtless be pleased by the news as they have no intention of selling the player to a direct rival, particularly old foes United. No player has moved between ourselves and the Red Devils since 1964 – when Phil Chisnall came to Anfield – so it seems quite a stretch to suggest that pattern could be broken.

We told you yesterday – via the Daily Mirror – that Louis van Gaal’s side were ready to submit a £25m offer for Sterling to test our resolve to keep the player this summer, but the Liverpool Echo suggest that their move is simply a non-starter.
