Tabloid report claims Liverpool have agreed terms with Mateo Kovacic

Do we believe them – or are they just playing with our emotions? The Daily Star are claiming this morning that Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic has agreed terms on a move to Liverpool, although a transfer fee is yet to be agreed.

We reported earlier this week (via the Liverpool Echo) that Milan would be demanding £18m for the talented Croatian, and while that offer has still not been made, the Star believe the Reds have taken another important step towards sealing a deal.

The report suggests that our current offer stands at £15.2m, so perhaps by making headway with the player himself we can convince the Italian giants to lower their valuation. The 21-year-old would represent a key addition to our squad ahead of next season and Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to be the only man hoping this one gets done soon.

Despite the addition of James Milner, the departure of Steven Gerrard has left us with a big hole for us to fill in our midfield, and the talented youngster, who already has a lot of experience at the top level, would be a fine prospect.

The Reds need to make a statement of intent and prove that they can still win the race to sign this calibre of player, so come on Brendan, let’s bring this one home!
