Liverpool to offer clever swap-deal for priority midfield target

This would be an outstanding piece of business if we could pull it off…

Italian publication Gazzeta dello Sport, cited here in the Metro, reckon that we’re going to try to tempt Inter Milan into a selling us Mateo Kovacic by offering them Fabio Borini in return…

The report claims we’ve already agreed personal terms with the young Croatian midfielder, but that a deal is stalling because Inter are playing hardball over the transfer fee.

But adding Borini (or midfielder Lucas, as the report also suggests…) to the deal might convince the Serie A giants into doing business.

Italian forward Borini is surplus to Anfield requirements. He signed from Roma in 2012, but in that time, he’s notched two Premier League goals, a devastatingly measly return.

Kovacic is one of the highest rated young central midfielders in Europe, and along with the signing of James Milner, he could fill the gap left by the departing Steven Gerrard who’s signing for LA Galaxy.

We’re moving quickly in the transfer market this summer – having also signed Danny Ings (via the official website) as well as Milner already.
