The arrival of James Milner has certainly been warmly welcomed at Anfield. None more so than by Liverpool star Adam Lallana, who believes that the addition of his England international teammate could prove vital next season.

As the Daily Mirror report, Milner chose to move Anfield despite strong interest from both Arsenal and former club Manchester City, who were desperate for the midfielder to sign a new contract.

The addition of the 29-year-old, who won two Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad Stadium, will likely go some way to replacing our outgoing captain Steven Gerrard, although the Mirror suggests that we’re also in for Inter Milan youngster Mateo Kovacic.

Milner’s versatility, experience and leadership could all prove crucial to a young squad looking to bounce back after a difficult year. Lallana describes the signing of Milner as a coup and it appears that the majority of Reds agree.

Speaking this week, Lallana said: “James Milner, he’s a fantastic player. He’s played his whole career in different positions. He’s won so many caps, won titles and trophies with Manchester City and it’s great for Liverpool to sign someone like him.

“James is going to be a vital addition to the squad. He’s a complete role model. He’s got unbelievable ability and sometimes people don’t appreciate that in the way they should. Left foot, right foot, got a goal in his locker and always fit. He’s the perfect player.”

The addition of Milner was quickly followed by that of Burnley striker Danny Ings on Monday, as the Reds made an impressive start to our summer transfer business.
