The American actor joked that Gerrard would be taken aback by seeing the sun when he arrived in the United States and might not know how to deal with it. He told Match of the Day magazine: “Once you get there you’re going to see a ball of fire in the sky. Do not be alarmed. It’s called the sun.”

Gerrard, who has spent the first 17 years of his professional career at Anfield, joins Galaxy at the end of this month when his contract with the Reds expires. The 35-year-old made more than 700 games for Liverpool and could well find it hard to adjust to life in the MLS – where he’ll undoubtedly be one of the main attractions.

However, the former England skipper has always taken challenges in his stride and will no doubt impress his new employers in time. And surely, the prospect of playing in the LA sun is a more attractive proposition than another chilly evening at the Britannia Stadium.
