Atletico Madrid confirm they’re in talks with rumoured Liverpool target

It looks as if Carlos Tevez will not be heading to Anfield this summer. Our proposed move for the Argentine striker – reported here by talkSPORT – was always an unlikely one, but this news is still unlikely to go down well with fans.

Despite the arrival of Danny Ings on a free transfer from Burnley, the Reds are desperate for the addition of a ‘marquee’ striker who will help fill the void that was left by the departure of Luis Suarez last year.

Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert all tried and failed to help fill that void during our disappointing 2014-15 Premier League campaign and, according to the Daily Mirror, could all be on the way out this summer.

Tevez, who was on the losing side in the Champions League final last weekend, is out of contract at the end of next season and is expected to be sold by Juventus during the summer months, as the Italian champions look to avoid losing the former Manchester United and Manchester City man for nothing in twelve months time (via the Mail).

Despite being 31, Tevez has enjoyed some of the best years of his career in Italy, scoring 50 goals in 95 games.

Unfortunately, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has said that his club’s representatives are now in talks with the player over a potential summer move to Spain (via BBC Sport).

“I haven’t spoken with him but I know people at the club are talking to his agent. It’s exciting to be linked with players like Tevez,” said Simeone. “He has the game in his blood. He’d be an ideal signing for our style of play.”

Simeone also confirmed that the signing of Villarreal forward Luciano Vietto – another rumoured Liverpool target (via the Echo) – was “imminent”.
