Liverpool are set to learn how much they will pay for new signing Danny Ings. The 22-year-old striker joins us on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the month, with a tribunal set to decide a compensation fee.

According to the Daily Mail, Burnley were hoping for around £10m but look set to be disappointed. We value our new signing at no more than £6m and the Mail expects that to be a more accurate estimate of his worth.

What could still work against us is the fact that Tottenham made a £12m bid for Ings’ services and subsequently raised his net value. Burnley meanwhile rejected our £4m offer, meaning the compensation fee is likely to be somewhere in between those two figures.

The current record fee handed down by a tribunal is £6.5m for Daniel Sturridge, when he moved from Manchester City to Chelsea in 2010. That fee was broken down, with the Blues required to pay £3.5m outright with the rest in add-ons.

Former Liverpool youngster Tom Ince also had his fee negotiated by a tribunal, despite Cardiff City making an £8m offer for the then Blackpool star. Hull City were only made to pay an initial fee of £1.6m, which would rise to £2.3m.
