As the Daily Mirror explains, the 24-year-old has barely featured since a £10.5m move from Roma three years ago – making just 25 Premier League appearances and scoring only two goals.

He spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Sunderland, where he impressed, and vowed to fight for his place upon returning to Anfield. However, his impact has been extremely limited – with just one goal in all competitions – and Rodgers has only ever called on him when short on alternative options.

His agent, Marco De Marchi, said: “We are analysing all offers to decide what is best for his future. He is unhappy because he has not played many minutes and that’s not good for his career.

“At this moment we are not thinking about a new deal, because it would be negative for our objectives.”

The Mirror explains that Borini turned down moves to Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers last summer but would be happy to depart ahead of next season, despite still having two years remaining on his contract.

With Danny Ings having already joined us from Burnley this summer, Borini is unlikely to find opportunities any easier to come by next season and he knows that a move away is likely to be best for all involved.
