The former Liverpool midfielder is currently working with PSV Eindhoven’s juniors and the Dutch national side but has this week dropped a big hint that he could be open to a return to Merseyside.

Reports in the Daily Mirror explain that Zenden, who assisted former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez during his brief spell with Chelsea two years ago, has obtained his UEFA A licence and now wants to replace one of Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh, who were both dismissed last week.

They add that Zenden still has connections at Liverpool, where he played 46 times in two years, and knows Jordan Henderson – who he played with at Sunderland shortly before retiring.

When asked about the vacancy at his old club, Zenden told De Telegraaf: “I keep all my options open for the new season. I have always enjoyed myself in the Premier League.”

Zenden would certainly be a welcome addition at Anfield, although he perhaps lacks the experience of some his fellow candidates. A move for former Liverpool coach Pako Ayestaran has already been muted (via the Mirror) and at this stage that would arguably be a better choice.
