Done Deal: Sevilla sign Iago Aspas and then immediately loan him to Celta Vigo

ESPN are reporting this afternoon that Iago Aspas has completed not one, but two transfer moves this weekend. The striker, who spent last season on loan at Sevilla, has joined the Europa League winners on a permanent basis only to immediately seal a loan move to former club Celta Vigo.

It’s been a difficult couple of years for the 27-year-old. He joined the Reds from Celta in the summer of 2013 but found chances hard to come by at Anfield. He scored just one goal that season – in the FA Cup match against Oldham Athletic – and was loaned to Sevilla the following summer.

Unfortunately, he’s faired little better back in Spain, scoring just two La Liga goals. He’s again struggled to earn a place in the team, with the Sevilla squad also boasting the talents of Carlos Bacca and Kevin Gameiro, and he made just 16 league appearances in total.

However, ESPN tells us that there was a clause in his loan deal that meant Sevilla were obliged to make the deal permanent for €7m at the end of last season, which they have now done. The club have since confirmed that they have agreed to loan him to Celta, where Aspas scored 50 goals in six years.

Both clubs posted messages about the deal on their official Twitter pages:
