Madrid will certainly be confident of making home advantage count with players such as Clarence Seedorf and Zinedine Zidane in their midfield.

The former remains the only man to win the European Cup with three different clubs – Ajax, Madrid and AC Milan. However, the 39-year-old was also part of the side beaten by the Reds in Istanbul in 2005, so might have one eye on revenge when he walks out on to the pitch later today.

Zidane’s CV is arguably even more impressive. The Frenchman was widely regarded as the best player of his generation, having inspired success on both a club and international level. He signed for Real in 2001, three years after guiding France to their World Cup triumph on home soil. He scored the winner in the Champions League final twelve months later and won the FIFA World Player of the Year award three times.

Other notable inclusions in Madrid’s squad include Brazilian full-back Roberto Carlos, former Blackburn Rovers man Michel Salgado and ex-Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele.

Former Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes also lines up against us. He’s one of four players in this game to have played for both clubs – with the others being Michael Owen, Steve McManaman and Jerzy Dudek.

One lesser known name to look out for is Madrid forward Edwin Congo, who never actually played a competitive fixture for the Madrid first-team, but has become somewhat renowned on the Legends circuit. He scored the only goal when Real beat deadly rivals Barcelona last year.

Madrid squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Francisco Buyo, Pedro Contreras, Roberto Rojas

Defenders: Roberto Carlos, Christian Karembeu, Michel Salgado, Francisco Pavon, Fernando Sanz, Manuel Sanchis, Jesus Enrique Velasco, Rafa Garcia Cortes

Midfielders: Clarence Seedorf, Zinedine Zidane, Claude Makelele, Santiago Solari, Jose Emilio Amavisca

Forwards: Fernando Morientes, Emilio Butragueno, Edwin Congo, Ivan Perez
