Coutinho, who turned 23 on Friday, has been for a scan on his thigh but thankfully the knock is not thought to be serious. Brazil’s manager, Dunga, has admitted that the midfielder might miss tonight’s match. However, he also added that he does not expect his player to be absent from the rest of the tournament.

“All the players are available, there is no risk of cutting,” said Dunga ahead of the game. Brazil’s next match is against Colombia on Wednesday, while that will be followed by a clash against Venezuela four days later.

Coutinho’s side are looking to banish memories of a disastrous World Cup campaign on home soil last summer. They reached the final four of the competition for the first time since 2002, only to be embarrassed by eventual winners Germany in the semi-final, and then again by the Netherlands in the third place play-off.

The Liverpool star, who was voted our Player of the Season this year, was not included in his side’s squad for the World Cup but has been a regular since the competition concluded.
