It doesn’t look like the Mateo Kovacic transfer is anywhere near as close to being completed as many news outlets have claimed…

We actually debunked the rumour this morning (check it out, here), and now Inter Milan director Marco Fassone has boldly declared that the 21-year-old Croat is not leaving the Serie A club this summer.

“You are all wrong, Kovacic stays,” he said.

Tuttosport in Italy claimed a £16m fee had been agreed, but as expected, it seems like that report may have been incorrect – unless Fassone is misleading supporters for the sake of it.

A central midfielder is undeniably a priority this summer because of the departure of Steven Gerrard, but it doesn’t look like a marquee arrival will happen this week – with Kovacic the only name being heavily linked right now.

The youngster is powerful and can do most things on a football pitch, and his potential is enormous.

Still, due to his inexperience, he can’t be considered a direct replacement for the legendary skipper. We’re not sure how strong our interest in Kovacic is, and are extremely sceptical of the daily reports surrounding our apparent bids anyway.
