Nine out-of-favour footballers who would make good summer signings for Liverpool

These nine players can’t even get a kick for their respective clubs. However, if we’re to continue with the clever transfer business that we’ve already succeeded in doing so far this summer, we’d do well to consider this list of potential candidates.

James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan have already come in without us spending a penny, so there should be money to spend. With these players out of favour they’re all likely to be available, so who would you take if you could have your pick?

Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

We still need a striker this summer, that much we know. The Bosnian has found himself down the pecking order at Manchester City, especially since the arrival of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City, and his record in England is good. He’s scored 71 goals in 185 games, including 26 in all competitions during the 2013-14 season.

Kwadwo Asamoah (Juventus)

It’s always going to be difficult when Arturo Vidal, Paul Pogba and Andrea Pirlo are among your fellow midfielders. The 26-year-old missed much of last season through injury but was previously a regular in the Juventus side. He’s twice been voted Ghana’s best player and was ranked as the 27th best footballer in the world as recently as 2013.

Bruma (Galatasaray)

He’s been in and out of his club side since joining them from Sporting Lisbon in 2013. A product of the same youth academy that produced Cristiano Ronaldo, the 20-year-old is still rated highly and expected to become an excellent player. He wouldn’t be a first-team regular for the Reds at this stage but he’d give us a different option and some much needed natural width.

Filipe Luis (Chelsea)

With Alberto Moreno having endured a difficult first season on Merseyside, the Spaniard might benefit from having an experienced mentor to show him the ropes. Luis has struggled to oust Cesar Azpilicueta from the Chelsea team and could be convinced to make the move across England this summer.

Yohan Cabaye (Paris Saint Germain)

James Milner has already come in but you get the impression that we could still be tempted into signing a second midfield player this summer, as we prepare ourselves for life without Steven Gerrard. The Frenchman has bags of Premier League experience, having spent a couple of years with Newcastle, and would be a decent addition.

Matthias Ginter (Borussia Dortmund)

Another player that struggled with injury last season. A youngster – he’s still only 21 – who is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also play in central defence, he’d offer cover in a number of positions. With Dortmund looking to rebuild from scratch this summer after a difficult year, Ginter could be a surprise departure.

Asier Illarramendi (Real Madrid)

A player that’s been linked with Liverpool a number of times already. The Spaniard has failed to settle in Madrid, following his move from Real Sociedad two years ago, but has the potential to be a wonderful player. A holding midfielder, who would add some much needed solidity to our team in the middle of the park.

Ciro Immobile (Borussia Dortmund)

The Italian has endured a miserable first season in Germany and hasn’t been helped by Dortmund’s poor form. He scored ten goals in 28 games in all competitions, with just three of them in the Bundesliga, although his record of 23 goals for Torino the previous season means that the striker should still have plenty to offer.

Juan Quintero (Porto)

One of the latest stars off the Colombian conveyor belt of talent. He’s not yet fully established himself in the Porto team but looks to have all the qualities to be a star of the future. He’s still only 22 and would potentially be among the ideal replacements for Raheem Sterling, should he leave this summer.
