Five strong strikers STILL available this summer, as our options continue to disappear

Carlos Tevez is on the verge of moving to Boca Juniors, Mario Mandzukic is off to Juventus, Edinson Cavani is happy at Paris Saint Germain, Manchester United are the favourites to land Roberto Firmino, and are chances of landing Alexandre Lacazette have always been close to zero… there’s not much left to pick from really, is there?

It’s certainly looking increasingly unlikely that Liverpool are going to be getting a second striker this summer, especially while Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli remain firmly on our books. Will we have to settle for our out-of-favour trio again, plus Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi?

That combination certainly doesn’t feel us with confidence. But fear not! We’ve come up with a list of five strikers who are still very much up for grabs during the break. Would any of these ‘marquee additions’ be a good fit at Anfield?

Read our list below and find out:

5) Carlos Bacca (Sevilla)

The Colombian has come to the party late in his career but should not be underestimated. The 28-year-old only made the move into a major European league in 2013, when he joined Sevilla from Club Brugge, but he has rewarded his employers with 49 goals in 106 games and back-to-back Europa League titles. He’s also scored four goals for his country over the last twelve months – more than teammates Radamel Falcao or Jackson Martinez.

4) Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)

Undervalued and underrated at the Etihad Stadium, where he has fallen down the pecking order after a difficult season. With Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony both now ahead of him, the Bosnian is likely to demand a move this summer – something we would be foolish not to take advantage of. The 29-year-old has scored 71 goals during four-and-a-half years in England, including 26 during their double winning campaign of 2013-14.

3) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund)

With Jurgen Klopp having gone, no one’s quite sure what’s next for a number of the Dortmund stars, and Liverpool could take advantage by swooping for this impressive 25-year-old. The Gabon international scored 25 goals in all competitions last season, despite Dortmund’s poor form, and has not failed to reach double figures for the campaign since 2011. He’s finished second in the ‘African Player of the Year’ vote in 2014, behind Yaya Toure.

2) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

The Argentine’s record is one of the most impressive in Europe and, with that in mind, it’s surprising that he hasn’t achieved more with his career thus far. There were quite a few eyebrows raised when he chose to move from Real Madrid to Napoli but he’s continued to score freely. The 27-year-old has in fact netted 164 times over the last seven years. He should be at the very peak of his powers right now and would represent a great coup for us.

1) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

The rumours surrounding the big Belgian have slowed over recent weeks. He was certainly disappointing on his two most recent outings – the FA Cup final against Arsenal and Belgium’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales – both of which ended in defeat. However, his record of 49 goals in 99 games for a team that struggles to find the net should not be sniffed at – he has proven Premier League quality and he would offer us something totally different.
