Liverpool XI featuring confirmed signing quartet – Gomez & Milner feature

We have officially confirmed the signing of four signings already this summer, and there will hopefully be plenty more to come. But how do the transfers we’ve made so far fit into our current side?

Here is a possible starting XI which includes all four of our signings so far:

GK) Adam Bogdan

The Hungarian almost certainly won’t be our first choice shot-stopper next season, especially when you consider the fine form of Simon Mignolet in 2015. He is a far better back-up than what we currently have however, and we won’t be left with hearts in mouths every time Mignolet gets a knock.

RB) Joe Gomez

The versatile young defender is probably more likely to have a future at centre-back, and may not even break into the first team in his debut season at the club. We are currently lacking options at right-back though, and Gomez is more than capable of playing there when needed.

LB) Alberto Moreno

The Spaniard has shown glimpses of real quality since his arrival, and assuming we move away from a three at the back formation he should be a regular starter.

CB) Martin Skrtel

Unquestionably our best defender, Skrtel has proved hugely important to our success. He is one of the first names on the teamsheet, and is one of the first names on this list.

CB) Mamadou Sakho

Brendan Rodgers experimented with a number of players partnering Skrtel last season, with Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure seeing a fair bit of action. If it weren’t for injuries however, Sakho would most likely be the one to start alongside the Slovakian.

DM) Emre Can

The German’s versatility has seen him deployed in a number of positions, but he seems to thrive most in a midfield role. He is likely to continue there next season, especially following the exit of Steven Gerrard.

CM) Jordan Henderson

Henderson has come on leaps and bounds since his arrival at the club, and is now one of the most important cogs in our side. He may well prove to be the long-term captain, and will be hugely important to our success next season.

CAM) Raheem Sterling

Sterling was moved around a lot last season, and we weren’t really able to get the best out of him. He seems to thrive most when given a free role behind the striker though, and that is where his future looks like being.

RAM) James Milner

Milner may well be deployed in more of a central role upon his arrival, but his versatility means he can play in a variety of roles. He has normally been used as a right-sided midfielder for Manchester City, but has been known to play right-back, central midfield, No.10, or even a striker.

LAM) Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian was unquestionably one of our best players this past season, and he looks to have plenty of gears still to shift into. He is doing well at the Copa America at the moment, and hopefully he keeps up his good form heading into 2015/16.

ST) Danny Ings

Ings may not be the marquee striker signing that many were looking for, but he is unquestionably a talented young forward. He proved he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, and scoring the number of goals he did with a struggling Burnley side is nothing short of impressive.

He may not be our first choice next season, but he definitely has goals in him.
