Brazilian media claim Liverpool will sign Firmino for £18m on 5-year-deal

Let’s not get too excited, too quickly…

But Brazilian media outlet Globoesporte are strongly reporting that we’ve agreed a deal for Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino for £18m, and that the 23-year-old will sign a five-year-contract to link up with his international team-mate Coutinho in Merseyside.

Both are currently on international duty with El Selecao at the Copa America in Chile, with Firmino scoring in Brazil’s last outing which confirmed their passage into the quarterfinals.

The transfer would represent one of our most ambitious and exciting in recent windows, and hush the doubters who’ve so far criticised us for signing three players on a Bosman and a youngster: James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez.

With Hoffenheim, Firmino has bagged 49 goals in 153 appearances. Outstanding statistics for a player who is rarely used as a central forward.

The report claims that Manchester United were heavily interested, but have now set their sights on Lazio’s prodigal Brazilian Felipe Anderson instead.

If this is true, it sounds like good news for us as the Red Devils already beat us to Memphis Depay earlier in the window.
