Five other South Americans Liverpool should consider, with Bacca & Firmino talks confirmed

We have already been heavily linked with moves for Carlos Bacca and Roberto Firmino (via Sky Sports), and it seems as though there is a South American theme to our transfer movements at the moment.

Liverpool fans take to Twitter in waves as Brazilian reports that Roberto Firmino will sign for £18m

With that in mind, here are five other South Americans that we should be targeting, or have been linked with in the past:

5) Juan Fernando Quintero

Along with Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, Quintero is the future of Colombia. The 21-year-old is massively talented, and as the Echo reports, he has in the past been compared to Lionel Messi.

Currently plying his trade with FC Porto, the tricky attacking midfielder would be an excellent acquisition.

4) Eder Balanta

This youngster is not as well known as some of the bigger names on this list, but he certainly has a bright future ahead of him. We have been linked with a £4.3m (via the Express) move for the defender in the past, and he certainly looks like he has the attributes required to thrive in the Premier League.

3) Juan Iturbe

Iturbe hasn’t exactly set Serie A on fire at Roma, but he looked fantastic at Verona the previous season. He has been linked with an £18m move to Anfield (via the Metro), and we may well be able to get the best out of him.

He has arguably been misused at Roma, and there is plenty to come from him. £18m may well be a little steep, but if we can get him cheaper he could prove a solid signing.

2) Jose Gimenez

We haven’t been linked with the Uruguayan, but if we aren’t already looking at him, then we should be.

He is one of the brightest young defenders in football at the moment, and at 20-years-old he would not only add something now, but could be a future partner for Joe Gomez (via the BBC).

1) Mauro Icardi

The Argentine is one of the most highly sought after young players in football at the moment, and is being chased by a number of top clubs. Inter Milan failed to secure Champions League football this season, and hopefully that will convince Icardi that his future lies elsewhere.

His hugely impressive 22 goals in 33 starts this season (via Who Scored) suggests he could really add something we’ve been missing recently. We’ve struggled for goals from our forwards recently, and Icardi would definitely go a long way towards remedying that.
