Liverpool could meet Carlos Bacca’s buyout clause soon, claims report

Carlos Bacca has reportedly been made our new number one transfer target, after his £21.5m buyout clause was revealed. According to the Daily Mirror, a deal for the Colombian could even be sealed in the near future.

However, The Telegraph believes that the Reds face competition from Manchester United for the striker, who scored 28 goals in all competitions last season. They state that both clubs are ready to pay the reported fee, which current employers Sevilla will demand is paid in full.

They also confirm that Liverpool have held talks with the player – and subsequently hold an advantage over our rivals – although they refuse to make clear whether our signing of Roberto Firmino, which was confirmed yesterday, will have dampened our interest in the 28-year-old.

Encouragingly for us, The Telegraph believe that United don’t consider Bacca a top target, with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane both preferable additions for Louis van Gaal’s side.

It does seem that the Reds are still on the lookout for a ‘marquee’ addition up front, despite signing Firmino, with Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi the only out-and-out forwards currently guaranteed their places in our squad.

Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini have all been tipped to leave (via the Daily Mirror) and it’s hoped that the money from those potential sales will help seal another major addition, such as Bacca.

Sky Sports suggest that Salomon Rondon – who plays for Zenit St Petersburg – is another possibility.
