Liverpool’s impressive all-English XI, with four new signings and no Raheem Sterling

Nathaniel Clyne’s seemingly imminent addition to the Liverpool ranks – which has been all but confirmed by multiple sources, including the Echo and The Independent – completes a rather impressive home-grown XI that we could potentially have at our disposal next season.

In fact, the team that we’ve put together below is so strong, that we couldn’t even find room for Raheem Sterling. The wantaway England international appears to be on the verge of a move to Manchester City, so we’ve made him make do with a place on the bench here… another indication that the £50m transfer fee can’t get here soon enough!

Here’s the team that we have gone with…

GK) Lawrence Vigouroux

The Reds’ fourth choice goalkeeper and a semi-regular in the Under-21s last season, alternating with Danny Ward. He arrived at the club from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and recently signed a contract extension with us.

RB) Nathaniel Clyne

The reported new addition to the Liverpool squad. The England international will come in as the direct replacement for Glen Johnson, whose contract expired at the end of last season. He will be expected to impress.

LB) Jon Flanagan

He might have spent the last year out injured and he might be about to spent most of next season on the sidelines as well, but there’s little doubting the youngster’s qualities. He was key two seasons ago and we wish him well.

CB) Joe Gomez

Another new arrival – a confirmed one as well – the youngster might have to wait for his chance next season but his versatility – he’s able to play on the right as well – might ensure him the odd chance in the cup competitions.

CB) Andre Wisdom

After two years out on loan – one at Derby County and one at West Bromwich Albion – the towering young defender is back and has been handed a new contract at the club. It’s now or never for him at this stage.

RM) Jordon Ibe

After spending the first-half of last season on loan at Derby County, the winger has come in and performed wonders in the Liverpool team, putting in several excellent displays and really staking his claim for a regular spot.

CM) James Milner

The direct replacement for Steven Gerrard. He brings with him plenty of experience at the top level, as well as an impressive winning mentality. He’ll offer us plenty of versatility in midfielder as well as all of his work-rate.

CM) Jordan Henderson

Our captain in waiting has been in fine form over the last couple of years, helping inspire us to a second place finish in the Premier League two seasons ago, before becoming one of our standout performers last year.

LM) Adam Lallana

He endured a difficult first season at Anfield, one which was held back by a number of niggling injury problems. However, he showed enough promise in the final weeks of the campaign to suggest he could still be a success.

ST) Daniel Sturridge

The striker started just seven Premier League games last season, but after hip surgery this summer he’ll be hoping to hit the ground running during our next campaign, and rediscover the sort of form he’s already shown for us.

ST) Danny Ings

A fourth and final new signing in this list. The former Burnley man reached double figures in goals last season despite his side getting relegated and will be hoping to kick on now that he’s playing at the top end of the table.
