Liverpool target & Copa America star confirms Serie A switch

We have been heavily linked with a move for Colombian forward Carlos Bacca in recent weeks (via the Liverpool Echo), with the Sevilla star impressing for club and country.

Our interest in the striker has been brought to a swift end however, with the player himself confirming that he will be joining Serie A side AC Milan, according to Sky Sports.

Despite the signing of the versatile Roberto Firmino (via the Liverpool Echo), we are badly lacking in the striker department. Daniel Sturridge has struggled consistently with injury, and Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, and Rickie Lambert all failed to convince when given their respective chances.

Bacca would have been a solid signing, as the 28-year-old has been prolific since joining Spanish side Sevilla. We will have to turn our attentions elsewhere however, as the South American confirmed his switch to Serie A.

“It needs to be confirmed, but it is true – we’ve reached an agreement with Milan”, Bacca said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“My representative tells me they are the club with 100 per cent of the possibility [of signing me].”

His agent echoed the confirmation, putting it beyond any doubt that he is San Siro bound this summer.

“I can confirm that Milan and the player have reached an agreement,” Sergio Barila said (via Sky Sports).

“Carlos has chosen the best for his future, it is normal to be happy.”

It’s hard to see how or why he would choose Milan over us, with the Italian giants struggling badly in recent seasons. Which suggests to me that he wasn’t necessarily our primary target in the first place, and that we have our eye on someone bigger and better.
