Club legend claims Sterling should be sold, as Ibe is better anyway

Former Liverpool star John Aldridge insists we should cash in on Raheem Sterling now, as it is what is best for everyone involved. The ex-Anfield striker claims there is no point having a player at the club who doesn’t want to be here, and believes we already have the ideal replacement in young Jordan Ibe.

Manchester City are apparently chasing Sterling’s signature (via the Manchester Evening News), and are willing to pay big money to land him. Aldridge is convinced we should cash in on the wantaway forward, and get the most money we possibly can for him.

We already have Jordan Ibe waiting in the wings to take the mantle from Sterling, and Aldridge believes Ibe may even have more potential than Sterling.

“I think Brendan Rodgers should let Raheem Sterling leave for City now. The sooner he leaves Liverpool the better for all involved,” wrote Aldridge, on his Kicca blog.

“Raheem is obviously a hugely talented player but Liverpool have a top replacement in Jordan Ibe.

“I’ve been watching Jordan play since he was 15. He’s a terrific player and has bags of potential.

“In fact I think he’s got as much if not more potential than Raheem and could well go on to be a better player.

“On top of that he’s a big strong lad who is very direct with a great shot on him.”

Aldridge doesn’t put the blame solely on Sterling, and claims he has no doubt been heavily influenced by his agent. The damage is done however, and he believes it would be best for everyone to just cut our ties and cash in on the England international.

“Sterling is obviously too young to think for himself so his agent has been doing his thinking for him,” writes Aldridge.

“For the sake of Liverpool Football Club they should take the millions on offer then everybody will be better off.

“Raheem will be a bit richer and Liverpool will be rid of a player who doesn’t want to play for the club. It’s a win-win.”

If Sterling really is resigned to leaving, then keeping an unhappy player at the club isn’t going to help anyone. So if we can get a decent fee for him, then Aldridge may well be right.
