Clyne & Firmino’s new Liverpool squad numbers revealed in report

Our latest summer signing Nathaniel Clyne will wear Glen Johnson’s old no.2, which is available now the exiting England international has been released, according to the Daily Star.

The number is traditionally associated with the right-back position, and we hope the £12.5m arrival from Southampton can well and truly make it his own in 2015/16.

The report also claims that £29m Brazilian international acquisition Roberto Firmino will don the no.11, Bosman arrival James Milner will wear the no.7 and low-key goalkeeping arrival Adam Bogdan will be allowed the no.1 – so long as Simon Mignolet doesn’t specially request it.

This means that as of yet, Steven Gerrard’s now legendary no.8 is still available – and it’s uncertain as to whether another marquee arrival will come in and take it this summer – with a central midfielder still regarded as a priority signing this transfer window.

It was previously announced that fellow summer signing Danny Ings chose to wear the no.28 shirt to avoid extra pressure associated with a more iconic shirt (via Mirror).

As of yet, there’s no word as to what number young Joe Gomez will wear, although it probably makes most sense to loan the centre-half straight back to the Championship to maximise his playing time.
