Liverpool actively trying to loan out £20m signing

Italian publication Calcio Mercato reckon that Lazar Markovic is not in Liverpool’s first-team plans for the upcoming season, and that the club will attempt to loan him out providing a potential suitor will pay his wages.

The Serbian flyer arrived from Benfica last summer for £20m and despite the enormous hype that surrounded his signing, the youngster failed to live up to expectations.

He failed to cement a spot in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI, making just 11 Premier League starts in total.

Markovic did show glimpses of his undeniable potential, and his chances of fulfilling it were probably diminished by being played out of position and not being given a run of games in the front three.

But with Roberto Firmino signing, and Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Jordon Ibe and Raheem Sterling (if he stays) ahead of him in the pecking order, it’s hard to see much changing in 2015/16.

Perhaps a loan to a Premier League club who’d start him virtually every match would be beneficial – but a foreign loan rarely results in a player returning to Liverpool and establishing himself…

We’re not giving up on Markovic yet, and whatever the club decide to do, we’ll be hoping he can find confidence and start to showcase his ability.
