That’s according to the Guardian, who are adamant that the 24-year-old forward will alert Tim Sherwood of his desire to leave the Midlands club – as a result of their consecutive relegation battles.

The report claims that Villa are sternly sticking to their £32.5m valuation, which is the striker’s release clause, but that Liverpool have no intention of meeting it – and are prepared to play a waiting game right up until the start of next season.

Villa reckon that because they can offer Benteke guaranteed first-team football, he’ll agree to stay for one more season with the European Championships coming up in 2016, but The Guardian claim this will not sway the attacker’s decision.

The Benteke transfer saga threatens to go on and on, with both clubs seemingly at stalemate. If Villa really do stick to their £32.5m asking price, it’s implausible that we’ll sign him – but if this story is to be believed – they’ll end up with a seriously unhappy player on their hands.

If this is the case, they may choose to cash in, aware that they’ll get significantly less next summer when the forward has only 12 months left on his contract.
