Danny Ings has hailed Brendan Rodgers as the perfect manager to help guide his future career. The former Burnley striker was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player on Wednesday evening and has since given his first interview to our club’s official website.

“He’s fantastic at developing young players,” Ings said of Rodgers. “For a player like me, I think it will be perfect to work with him; I’m really looking forward to getting that relationship with him and the rest of the coaches and the players as well. It’s something I’m really excited to do.
“There’s nothing better for a young player like me than to be working for a manager like that, who loves to bring all these young boys in and give them a chance. With the development that he has for young players, it suits me down to the ground and hopefully we can have a great relationship for the future.”
The 22-year-old, who scored 11 Premier League goals last season, is the latest in a long line of promising young players to join the club.
Brendan Rodgers has also brought in the likes of Emre Can, Alberto Moreno, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi over the last twelve months and the boss has been widely praised for his efforts with the junior players (via Daily Express).
Ings has also been inspired by our other new signings this summer. James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne have also been brought in, as have youngster Joe Gomez and back-up goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.
“It’s always a massive sign when a club brings in quite a few players during the window – it shows that you mean business,” he said. “The standard of the players that are coming in is fantastic. The players will definitely add to the team and really make it stronger.”
Our latest addition also discussed his number choice. The striker chose the number 28 for the new season and subsequently reiterated his belief that he should have to earn one of the lower numbers.
“Taking one of the low numbers does make a difference, because some of the players that have worn those shirts have been superstars and world-class players,” he said.
“So it was important to start with a high number and my reason is to work my way down. When I achieve success here, that’s when I’ll take a shirt like that; until then, I’ll keep No.28, keep my head down and work hard.”
