The Liverpool Echo have broken the news on their live blog, as Sterling continues to play hooky in order – we assume – to help facilitate a move to Manchester City.

Liverpool will soon send medical staff to assess Sterling, who also missed training on Wednesday, with financial repercussions likely to occur if he’s found guilty of lying about his illness.

Sterling did attend the first day of training earlier this week, where he met with manager Brendan Rodgers to discuss his future. However, as the Echo explain, he used the meeting as an opportunity to reiterate his desire to leave and to tell the boss that he wouldn’t be travelling with the rest of the squad on our pre-season tour of the Far East.

Manchester City have only made two bids for Sterling thus far, the last of which was made more than three weeks ago. As the Echo tell us, their £40m offer was rejected and they have so far failed to make an improved bid.

Sterling is seemingly desperate for the move but the Reds remain adamant that he won’t be sold below our valuation, believed to be closer to £50m (via The Telegraph).
