Liverpool supposedly chasing Premier League flop to strengthen midfield

There are certainly some strange transfer rumours that are sweeping the internet right now, but this one surely eclipses them all… Liverpool ‘want’ Inter Milan midfielder Gary Medel – formerly a big-money flop at Cardiff City.

The rumour – although it feels insulting to the word rumour to call it that – comes off the back of Medel’s successful Copa America campaign with Chile, who won the competition last week, and the fact that Inter are seemingly buying every midfielder on the planet.

Unsurprisingly, this brilliant piece of journalism comes to us from The Metro, a common source for stories such as this. They state that the Reds consider Medel the perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard – something that’s pretty insulting when you think about it – and add that we have turned to the 27-year-old after missing out on Mateo Kovacic.

Medel signed for Cardiff from Sevilla two summers ago and preceded to make 35 forgettable appearances without scoring. A year later, following the Bluebirds relegation, he joined Inter. Last year he played 44 times in all competitions, again without scoring.

The defensive midfielder – who would have to battle the likes of Joe Allen, Emre Can and Lucas Leiva for his spot in the team – is nicknamed the “Chilean Pitbull” for his style of play. But unfortunately, we think his bark might be a little worse than his bite.
