Liverpool vice-captain hint given by strange pre-season decision

If we’re going to infer anything by Brendan Rodgers’ decisions during today’s pre-season friendly versus the Thai All-Star XI, it’s that previously mooted candidates Lucas and Mamadou Sakho will not be given the vice-captaincy.

With new skipper Jordan Henderson and veteran centre-back Martin Skrtel not starting the game, the manager decided to give Kolo Toure the captaincy.

The Ivorian is expected to be nothing more than a reserve for us next season, but the fact he was given the armband instead of our longest serving player Lucas suggests that the vice-captaincy will be given to Skrtel – the centre-back who’s recently extended his Liverpool deal.

We can’t argue with this decision really, but would have thought Lucas would at least be our third choice captain considering the years of loyal service he’s provided us.
