Liverpool still interested in Zenit powerhouse, claim Italian reports

Liverpool could renew their interest in Salomon Rondon this month, according to reports in Italian daily Calcio News 24, after growing frustrated with the lack of progress over a potential deal for Christian Benteke.

There are thought to be plenty of doubts over Benteke among the Liverpool hierarchy, who have so far been unwilling to meet the player’s £32.5m buyout clause, as The Telegraph explains.

Rondon, who scored 20 goals in all competitions last season compared to Benteke’s 15, would likely come at a more reasonable price – although Calcio believe that Roma and Wolfsburg are also interested.

They state that Roma’s interest is dependent of the future of Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, who the Italian club are also interested in taking to the nation’s capital.

We already know that Liverpool have held talks with Rondon, as we did with Roberto Firmino and Carlos Bacca last month (via Sky Sports), but nothing appears to have come of those discussions thus far.

The Venezuelan international, 25, does have experience of playing in a major European league – he scored 25 goals in 67 league games for Malaga between 2010 and 2012 – and could thrive in the Premier League.

He is renowned as a particularly prolific finisher, as demonstrated below…
