Five things we want to see against Adelaide United – with Moreno and Lallana

Liverpool are readying themselves for pre-season game number three this morning, looking to continue the fine form that saw us beat both the Thai All-Stars (4-0) and Brisbane Roar (2-1).

There have been plenty of positives for all to see thus far, but here are five things we’d still welcome seeing during the match with Adelaide United.

5) Alberto Moreno to return

The Spaniard has missed the first two games after picking up a slight injury. In his absence, Andre Wisdom, Joe Gomez and Joe Maguire have all impressed, and with Moreno having struggled at times last season as well, there have been more than a few question marks left over the youngster’s future. The only way he can stop people talking is by doing the business on the pitch. Let’s get him back and showing people what he’s truly capable of.

4) Youngsters to get their chance

Liverpool took a lot of young players on this tour and several of them are still waiting to get their chance. With the senior players all having got on and done well thus far, surely this is the time to give an opportunity to Daniel Clearly, Pedro Chirivella, Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo – the latter a particular cause of excitement following his fine performance out on loan at Wigan last season. Strong performances here could earn them a look-in next year.

3) Adam Lallana to continue shining

Two games, two goals. It couldn’t have gone much better for Adam Lallana thus far. It all comes in stark contrast to what happened to him last season, when he returned from the World Cup and picked up an injury which eventually ruled him out of the entirety of our pre-season tour. Those problems continued throughout the season and we arguably never saw the best of him. Hopefully he can continue to impress and let us see him at his best.

2) Markovic and Ibe to get their chance

Both players have a lot to prove if they want to feature regularly next season – with Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana likely to be the favourites to occupy the attacking midfield positions. This duo bring natural width to the squad, which is something we otherwise rely on the full-backs for, and their valuable nature should not be dismissed. Both players have shown flashes of their quality on this tour and deserve another chance.

1) A viable vice-captain to show themselves

There’s still been no official decision made over who will be our vice-captain next season. Kolo Toure is the only other man to wear the armband on tour thus far, and common sense tells you that while the Ivorian’s leadership qualities will be important next season, he’s unlikely to get the nod on a permanent basis. Several players will be hoping to show what they can do over the remaining couple of the games of the tour and put their name out there.
