The redevelopment of Anfield’s main stand takes a giant step forward today with the lifting of the 650 tonne new roof truss into place at the top of the impressive structure.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the truss is being hoisted on to two towers either side of the existing stand. It was due to go up yesterday but high winds prevented the lift from taking place.

It was instead delayed until this morning to ensure that it went ahead in safe conditions. The limit for work to safely go ahead was 9 metres per second but with gusts being recorded at 11mps, bosses called off their plans just after 9am – knowing that they would need a full day of work to complete the procedure.

The lift is being done by two 25ft cranes. The huge vehicles have only twice been used before in the UK, once at Wembley and once at Wimbledon, truly emphasising the hugely impressive nature of the work taking place.
