Liverpool linked with surprise move for talented French midfielder

For those of you who thought that Liverpool’s summer business was done and dusted and that the sagas surrounding our remaining transfer targets were merely going to fade away, we give you Jordan Veretout.

The young Frenchman, who currently plays for FC Nantes, is the subject of the first new Liverpool rumour we’ve heard for many a week – and makes a refreshing change from the likes of Illarramendi and Reus (via talkSPORT).

According to the Metro, never the most reliable of sources admittedly, an unnamed Premier League club have moved for the 22-year-old. The source states that Tottenham were thought to be the favourites, but that move is now looking less likely, leading to speculation linking the player with Liverpool.

Veretout, who has been tipped to make his full international debut ahead of Euro 2016, is a box-to-box midfielder and looks to be the kind of versatile young talent that Rodgers has so often favoured in the transfer window.

Last season, he played as both an attacking and defensive midfielder, starring in 36 games in total. He scored seven goals and provided six assists, and impressed with his supreme ability on the ball.

Nantes want £10.6m for the player, according to the report, and that kind of reasonable figure might be just enough to tempt us in to make a move. Definitely an interesting one to watch this.
