Sampdoria want Mario Balotelli, but won’t meet £7m asking price

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero wants to sign Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli this summer, according to reports in the Daily Mail, but won’t meet our £7m asking price.

The Italian is surplus to requirements at Anfield, following the summer arrivals of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino, and has reportedly been put up for sale for a minimal amount.

That’s despite – as the Mail states – us spending £16m on the former Inter Milan, Manchester City and AC Milan star last summer. He scored just one Premier League goal during his first twelve months at Anfield and was widely criticised for his lacklustre performances.

Despite his less than impressive record on Merseyside, Balotelli has scored goals regularly in Italy and could be a useful signing for a mid-table Serie A side such as Sampdoria, should the club be able to appeal to the 24-year-old.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, club president Massimo Ferrero told reporters: “They told me that Mario was yesterday in Genoa. He costs €10m but, with discount, you look with open arms.”

Balotelli has already turned down third division Italian side Lupa Castelli – as ESPN report – and with time running out until the start of the new season, we might have to take a huge loss of we wish to get rid of him.
