Lucas Digne’s agent teases Liverpool fans: Reds interested, but no contact made

The Liverpool Echo are this morning citing reports in Denmark, which carry quotes from the agent of rumoured Liverpool transfer target, Paris Saint Germain left-back Lucas Digne.

Us Liverpool fans are obviously keen to know whether there are any truth in these rumours, particularly after Andre Wisdom was allowed to leave on a season-long loan to newly promoted Norwich City (via BBC Sport), leaving us with just three natural full-backs in our squad – Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez (assuming Jose Enrique is surplus to requirements).

Signing the 22-year-old Frenchman would allow him to battle it out with Moreno for the left-back slot, while Gomez would play on the right – as he did for former club Charlton – and serve as understudy to Clyne.

However, while that all sounds well and good, things might not be so simple. According to the player’s agent, Mikkel Beck – formerly a Premier League footballer himself – he hasn’t been given permission to speak to Liverpool in London, as some reports have claimed.

“That’s not right. They have not given me permission to talk to Liverpool,” he said. “I can not comment on the clubs’ names, but there is interest from several large systems.

“We have to see if something will come eventually, but that is what is being worked on. Lucas is not 100 percent satisfied with the situation in Paris.”

It’s always difficult to read too much into quotes such as these. There will be an angle that Beck is trying to play – attempting to either get his client a better deal in Paris or force the hand of the club they want to move too.

Either way, it’s hard to imagine us letting Wisdom go without a suitable back-up plan.
