‘I give it a year’ – Eight famously short Liverpool careers, with Balotelli set to go

Posted by

Mario Balotelli‘s Liverpool career looks to be over. The Independent revealed on Friday morning that the Italian had been told to train away from the rest of the first-team squad, with the Reds actively looking to move him on.

The 24-year-old, who was only signed from AC Milan last summer, scored just one Premier League goal during his single season at the club. And now, following the summer arrivals of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, he has seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements.

However, if he is to leave us this summer, he wouldn’t be the first Liverpool player to come under the here today, gone tomorrow category. In the list below, we count down eight other short-lived Anfield careers…

Christian Ziege

The left-back enjoyed an excellent career, winning 72 caps for Germany as well as a succession of major honours both at home and abroad. It never quite happened for him at Liverpool, where he was only a bit-part player, although he did end his single season at the club as a treble winner. He managed 32 appearances for us in total.

Titi Camara

The popular striker remains something of a cult hero among Liverpool fans, despite lasting for little more than a year at Anfield. He famously broke down in tears during a game against West Ham after scoring the winning goal, with the game coming just hours after the death of his father. He also scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Arsenal.
