New teammate describes what Firmino and Benteke bring to Liverpool

Emre Can has revealed his delight at the impact already made by Liverpool new signings, including Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke, who are yet to make their first-team debuts.

The German has got a closer look at the big-money pair than most, having joined them both at Melwood while the rest of the squad were still away on tour in the Far East.

Both Can and Firmino were given extended summer breaks, having played in the European Under-21 Championships and the Copa America respectively, while Benteke was signed too late to join his new teammates in Kuala Lumpur.

Despite the full squad having had less than a week of all training together, Can believes that both the Belgian and Brazilian have already settled in well.

“It has all gone very well – they all seem to have settled in quickly, and I think all of the new guys are feeling good,” he told our official website. “Liverpool Football Club only ever buys players in order to strengthen the squad and team, and it would make no sense not to have done so during this summer window as well.”

Firmino, Benteke and Can were all left out of today’s trip to Finland, where Brendan Rodgers’ side face HJK, but they could all feature in tomorrow’s final pre-season friendly against Swindon Town.

The latter has revealed that he’s particularly excited about seeing the former Hoffenheim and Aston Villa stars in action, having already been hugely impressed with his ability in training.

“He is a very, very good player – he scores a lot of great goals, and that’s what we need,” he said of Firmino. “He plays like a lot of Brazilians – he’s a fighter, and technically very strong and capable, and that can only help win matches for us.

“Christian is another very strong player, he works very hard,” he continued. “We see in the training groups just how much effort he puts in. And the Liverpool fans have already seen last season what a robust player he is. He’s also good in the air, and all round a very good purchase for us.”

Despite regularly admitting his desire to play in midfield this season (via Daily Express), Can also had kind words for former Manchester City star James Milner, who joined us on a free transfer back in June.

“James is a great player, and he has a lot of experience in the Premier League and at the highest level,” he said. “I am sure there will be a lot I can learn from him.”
