Goalkeeper leaves on loan, despite committing blunder in friendly

Lawrence Vigoroux will spend the season on loan at Swindon, Liverpool’s official website has confirmed.

The 21-year-old has been a key member of our Under-21 side since arriving from Spurs with Kevin Stewart in summer 2014.

The Chilean Under-20 international, who’s also available to represent England, played as a trialist for Swindon during Sunday’s 2-1 friendly victory for Liverpool.

Christian Benteke blasted a wonderful volley past Vigoroux, before the young keeper committed a serious fumble which allowed Sheyi Ojo the winner. Vigoroux failed to palm away Ojo’s powerful strike, and it looped over his head and into the back of the net.

Despite the error, Swindon have decided to take the stopper on loan, and we wish him the best, as with Adam Bogdan backing up Simon Mignolet, he wouldn’t have got any chances this coming season barring injuries.

Interestingly, Vigoroux almost became a Liverpool villain on Sunday, when he rushed out of goal and took our new signing Roberto Firmino – who at first looked as if he’d seriously injured himself.

Imagine the young keeper explaining that to Brendan Rodgers…?
